COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT GRANTS (CAGs)
It all begins with an idea to transform a community. Maybe it is about a business that will boost the entire community. Maybe it is about a social service for the community. Or maybe it is a creative project to share with the community. Whatever it is, the purpose of a CAG is to encourage the development work of communities that have successfully mobilized people and assets in order to make a positive change in their community.
How does the CAG program work?
At Five and Two we want to reward those communities that have not only taken our CCD training, but have used that training to take action - mobilizing their assets for positive change. In a World where development funding can often go to waste, we are recognizing that these actively engaged and motivated communities have proven they have what it takes to create sustainable ventures going forward.
Oversight for the use and management of these small grants comes from the Five & Two Network Resource Organization. You will be responsible to monitor the community project and report back to Five and Two. It is the responsibility of the Resource Organization to set the parameters of the grant and make an agreement of expectations with the grant recipients. In most cases, money will go into a rotating fund (CAG) that is managed by the Member Organization. They will agree on a contract with the community, including the total amount expected back and a timeline and reporting structure. The repayment can be structured to exclude certain costs related to training and building capacity for the group. In cases where the funds are used for a non-income generating purpose, no repayment should be expected.
Once an online CAG application has been received, a small CAG committee including Five and Two Network Members will approve, reject, or request modifications to the application. Each communities considered for a grant must have also met the criteria below.
Communities/organizations of at least 5 people will be considered.
Participation in the Five & Two Foundational training course is a prerequisite for communities/organizations of consideration.
The community/organization must have already initiated a development project using strengths and assets from within the community.
